FBI raid reaches Swalwell donor mansion in Beverly Hills

Yellow caution tape stretched across a North Roxbury Drive estate in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, as FBI agents carried out a sealed search warrant at a mansion reported to belong to billionaire donor Stephen Cloobeck. The search was tied to the federal investigation of former Rep. Eric Swalwell.

FBI spokesperson Lourdes Arocho stated the facts without elaboration: “We are executing a search warrant. Court documents are sealed. No arrests are planned.” In a separate statement to CNN, the bureau said it ran “an operation in the Los Angeles region related to an ongoing criminal investigation.” CNN reported that people familiar with the probe linked the mansion to the Swalwell case and to a donor’s home. Fox 11 and other outlets placed agents at the Cloobeck property. Video from outside showed agents and the tape in front of the house. Authorities have not detailed what was sought inside.

The raid places federal power at the door of a man who spent more than $1 million backing Swalwell, according to the New York Post, and whose Los Angeles-area home was where Swalwell, per that same reporting, recorded a denial video after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced. For conservatives who measure government by whether the law binds the connected as tightly as the ordinary citizen, the sequence matters more than the spectacle. A former member of Congress is being examined under a statute that treats official authority as a trust, not a shield.

Swalwell resigned from the House and quit the California governor’s race in April 2026 after sexual misconduct allegations, including rape. Lonna Drewes held a news conference describing an alleged assault in which, she said, Swalwell raped and choked her until she lost consciousness. Other women have alleged misconduct as well, including claims that he sent nude photos without consent. Los Angeles County’s sex crimes unit is still weighing whether to bring charges. New York authorities are conducting a separate inquiry.

Swalwell has denied criminal wrongdoing. In his resignation statement he wrote, “I will fight the serious false allegations made against me.” His lawyer, Sarah Azari, called the claims “false, fabricated and deeply offensive” and “a calculated and blatant political attack.” That is the defense on the record, stated in its own terms: fabrication and politics, not fact.

What followed the denials was a paper trail of court-authorized seizures. In August 2026, the FBI seized Swalwell’s devices at San Francisco International Airport and briefly held him there while the warrant was executed. The next day agents searched his Washington, D.C., home. Court records cited by the Los Angeles Times show investigators sought a white iPhone and a MacBook Pro. Federal prosecutors are using civil rights law that makes it a crime for anyone acting under official government authority to willfully deprive a person of constitutional rights. The theory is straightforward. When a public official uses the power of office to violate another person’s rights, the United States may charge the official under that statute. The sealed warrant on North Roxbury Drive.

Cloobeck, owner of Diamond Resorts International, had been one of Swalwell’s most visible patrons after his own unsuccessful run for office. The New York Post reported the donor’s support topped $1 million. After the allegations became public in April, Cloobeck broke with Swalwell and withdrew his support. He also left the Democratic Party. Reporting established that Swalwell had stayed at Cloobeck’s Los Angeles-area home and that the denial video was recorded at the mansion now searched. Money, lodging, and a taped statement all ran through the same address the FBI taped off on Tuesday.

Cloobeck faces his own criminal case, separate on the charging documents. In April the Los Angeles County district attorney filed three felony counts of attempting to dissuade a witness and one misdemeanor count of making annoying telephone calls. He was arrested in May 2026 in West Hollywood on those felony witness-dissuasion charges, tied to his fiancée Adva Lavie. Lavie, known online as Mia Ventura, was charged in November 2025 with eight felonies in a dating-app burglary scheme aimed at affluent Southern California men; six counts remain after two were dismissed, and she has pleaded not guilty. NBC Los Angeles reported that it was not immediately clear whether Tuesday’s warrant grew out of the Swalwell investigation or Cloobeck’s witness-dissuasion case. CNN’s sourcing and other accounts tied the mansion search to the Swalwell probe. The court papers remain sealed either way.

Equal enforcement is the conservative test. A statute written to stop officials from turning public power against private rights is only as real as the willingness to serve warrants when the target once held a House seat and drew seven-figure donor support. Device seizures at an airport, a search of a Washington home, and a raid on a Beverly Hills donor estate are the concrete forms that test takes. No arrests were planned on Tuesday. The sealed affidavit will decide what, if anything, moves next in federal court.
