Apple’s New CEO Takes Over A Trillion-Dollar Giant That’s Losing The AI Race

Apple’s new leader is taking over a company that is widely considered to be falling behind in the artificial intelligence race.

Apple CEO Tim Cook handed the big tech company over to hardware chief John Ternus on Tuesday, Reuters reported. Cook steps down from the company after a 15-year run, leaving Apple still trailing rivals in the AI race.

“Sending lots of love to the Apple community on my last day as CEO. My title changes tomorrow, but the love I have for the Apple community never will,” Cook said in a Monday X post. “Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration. My gratitude is endless, and I’m excited for the next chapter!”

Critics argue Apple’s products have fallen behind competitors with AI features. Apple’s Siri AI feature was delayed two years before its release, according to Reuters.

“AI is the single biggest challenge for Ternus. Apple needs to demonstrate that AI will be more than an app on the iPhone, more than Siri,” chief market strategist at Zacks Investment Management and an Apple stock owner Brian Mulberry said, Reuters reported.

“Beyond AI, ​the pressure to continue to remove manufacturing from China without pressuring margins is a tall task to undertake but part ​of that process is ⁠already underway,”Mulberry added. (RELATED: Your Next iPhone Will Cost More As AI Data Centers Gobble Up Chips)

Apple did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Cook expanded Apple’s market value more than twentyfold to $4 trillion during his tenure at the company.

“John Ternus has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with integrity and with honor,” Cook said in an April press release. “He is a visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years are already too numerous to count, and he is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future.”
