House Democrats’ top super PAC poured over $2.2 million into deep red seats Monday that they hope to flip.
The House Majority PAC spent $2.2 million on television advertisements against Republican Rep. Brad Finstad in Minnesota’s first district and $380,000 against Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz in Indiana’s fifth district, Punchbowl first reported. President Donald Trump won Spartz’s district by 17 points and Finstad’s district by 12 points.
A KAAL-TV/Survey USA poll found Democratic Minnesota congressional candidate Jake Johnson leading Finstad by two points. Spartz is leading Democratic Indiana state Sen. J.D. Ford, although Cook Political Report shifted the race from “Solid Republican” to “Likely Republican.”
“With eight days until Election Day, Democrats continue to expand the map and push Republicans further and further on defense,” House Majority PAC President Mike Smith said. “Next week, Democrats will take back the House, and Hakeem Jeffries will be elected the next Speaker.”
Cook Political Report shifted 19 House races toward Democrats Friday, which included races in red districts. The elections forecaster shifted four Republican-held seats from “Toss Up” to “Lean Democratic,” which included the seats held by Republican Reps. Juan Ciscomani of Arizona, Gabe Evans of Colorado, Jen Kiggans of Virginia and Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin.
Two other races in Texas’ 34th district and North Carolina’s eleventh district shifted from toss ups to leaning Democratic. Texas’ 34th district is held by Democratic Texas Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, who is seeking reelection. North Carolina’s district is held by Republican North Carolina Rep. Chuck Edwards, who announced he would not seek reelection after investigators concluded he engaged in inappropriate conduct.
Republicans have backed away from some House races they were hoping to pick up in November. The Congressional Leadership Fund, the House Republicans’ top super PAC, slashed $6 million from Florida’s 25th district and allocated $9 million to districts held by Republicans. The 25th district was redrawn to benefit Republicans.
Trump’s political operation, the No Stepping Back PAC, spent over $25 million into House races, including $6.3 million in Florida’s 25th district.
The super PAC also slashed $3 million from Texas’ 28th district, which was redrawn to help Republicans oust Democratic Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar. Trump won the district by seven percentage points in 2024.
