Lionel Messi is set to play his final match for Argentina against Benin on October 6 at Buenos Aires’ Estadio Monumental, ending a 21-year international career before a sold-out crowd. He leaves as Argentina’s most-capped player and all-time leading scorer, with 125 goals, after helping the team win two Copa América titles and the 2022 World Cup. The farewell follows his announcement that he would retire from international football and comes amid disappointment over Argentina’s recent World Cup final loss to Spain. The Benin camp has complained about travel and accommodation arrangements.
