The Pentagon says former Army major Nidal Malik Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 in the 2009 Fort Hood attack, is scheduled to be executed by firing squad at Fort Hood on Dec. 3. President Donald Trump approved the method after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended it. Hegseth said soldiers will carry out the execution at the time of day the attack began. Officials confirmed it will be livestreamed, a decision Hegseth framed as a way to make the consequences of the attack visible. The execution would be the U.S. military’s first use of the death penalty in decades and its first firing-squad execution since 1945; Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013.
