Maintenance workers spotted a raccoon with its head stuck poking out through a small hole in a dumpster at a school in Vidor City, Texas.
The animal could not pull free. The crew found it last week, on or about July 23, while starting work for the day.
They filled a plastic cup with water and held it out for the raccoon. The animal drank while still wedged in the metal, the cup offered as workers stood there and planned how to cut it loose. Water first. Then the tools.
An angle grinder came out. The team cut through the dumpster until the raccoon’s head slipped free.
"With steady hands and big hearts, our crew sprang into action," a Vidor ISD spokesperson said.
The district went on from there. "We're proud of our team for handling the situation with compassion, patience and a whole lot of creativity. Just another day in the life of our behind-the-scenes heroes. Thank you to our incredible maintenance team for going above and beyond, not just for our buildings, but for all creatures great and small!"
