Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for "The Fate of Ophelia" at the 2026 MTV VMAs, her sixth in the category, and dedicated it to Dolly Parton as the "ultimate showgirl." She also won Best Direction for "Opalite," her fifth, and the inaugural Artist Director Honors, bringing her career total to a record 32 VMAs. Her "Patient Zero" video had its world premiere at the ceremony.
Madonna won seven awards including Artist of the Year, the oldest recipient at 68, after 13 nominations to Swift's 11. She opened with a "Confessions II" medley, her fifth opening and first VMA performance in 23 years, and won Best Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter for "Bring Your Love." Chuck D presented Nirvana the Video Vanguard award, calling them "a band that changed the course of music." Sienna Spiro won Best New Artist; BTS took Song of the Year, Best K-Pop and Best Group Video for "Swim"; Ariana Grande won Song of Summer.
