President Donald Trump told Jewish and Black voters they are “not smart” and “crazy” if they vote for Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
Trump made the observation Friday at a rally in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Trump attacked Democratic candidates as a whole, then went after El-Sayed, who is running against Republican Mike Rogers.
“In state after state, the ‘Dumocrat Party’ has nominated the most extreme and dangerous radicals in American history,” Trump said. “The guy in Michigan? Abdul! How are you, Abdul?”
Trump continue as the crowd responded with boos.
“He’s a jihadist! Abdul’s a jihadist,” Trump said, before recounting conversations he claimed to have had with two friends about the Michigan race.
“I have a friend. He’s Jewish. He said, ‘What do you think I should do in Michigan?’ I said, ‘Are you stupid?’ He’s not voting for Abdul. I have another friend. He’s Black. He said, ‘What do you recommend?’ I said, ‘I recommend you go Republican,’ and he said, ‘Okay, that’s what I’m gonna do.’”
Trump warned Jewish and Black voters about being “not smart” if the vote for El-Sayed.
“No, if you’re Black or if you’re Jewish, and you vote for Abdul, you’re not smart. I’m being nice. You’re not smart.”
Trump’s speech on Friday echoed one he gave Thursday at a rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He urged Jewish and Black voters not to vote for El-Sayed, who would become the first Muslim elected to the Senate.
“If you’re Black, or if you’re Jewish, and if you vote for Abdul, you’re crazy, okay?” Trump said. “You’re crazy. You’re crazy anyway.”
