Democratic Socialists Plan To Abolish Police And Prison System

The most shocking part of the Democratic Socialists of America plan isn’t the cost. It is the specific list of things they want to ban entirely. According to RedState, the group’s 2026 midterm policy platform explicitly calls for “fully abolishing the police and prison system.” They also want “free, quality public education from pre-K to college” and “universal healthcare at no cost to individuals.”
This isn’t just vague talk about making things better. The DSA calls their plan the “Wokers Deserve More Program.” It breaks down into three main parts: thriving communities, foreign policy, and governance. They insist on “paid family leave for all workers” and “a 32-hour work week with full pay and benefits” to create these “thriving communities.” They also want a “living minimum wage” and to cancel “all student debt.”
The Price Tag for Free Stuff
Many people think these promises are just good ideas with no real cost. The facts show a very different picture. According to RedState, the hundreds of trillions of dollars required for this “free” stuff would trigger Weimar-like hyperinflation. When the laws of supply and demand stop working, economic growth would just stop. Shortages and rationing would start appearing everywhere.
The plan also includes “publicly-owned social housing” and “reparations.” It even calls for the “Green New Deal.” The source warns that almost certainly, this path would shepherd a central bank digital currency. That means the government could control exactly how you spend your money. Your freedom to choose would be replaced with “security” from the state.
Why Hard Work Gets Punished
It is hard to measure the cost to our spirit, but the damage is real. The DSA’s grievance and welfare state would suppress hard work and motivation. It would crush innovation, ingenuity, and the risk-taking that free enterprise needs to grow. The source notes that economic mobility would vanish along with the other incentives that drive our success.
This isn’t a new idea that just popped up. Many previous attempts at universal, single-payer healthcare have ended in failure. Consider the Soviet Union where the 1936 Constitution granted citizens certain rights. The result was not freedom, but a system that could not sustain itself. The DSA wants to bring those same failed ideas to American soil.
