Ilhan Omar Seeks Funds As Immigration Probe Intensifies

Rep. Ilhan Omar posted a video from the back of a moving car asking supporters for money while federal agents search her home. She claimed the government is trying to silence her just as she needs cash to fight back. This comes as Homeland Security Investigations seized her phone, computers, and passport last week.
The usually loud lawmaker has stayed off the campaign trail since the search began. Her husband walked the dog nearby but snapped at reporters who asked if she had fled the country. Meanwhile, her daughters were seen arriving at the house carrying bags. One daughter asked a reporter, “What’s your problem?” when confronted. Omar has not been seen in public since the raid.
The Money and the Message
Omar’s video plea was direct about the cost of her legal battle. She asked for small amounts, saying, according to the New York Post, “whether you’re able to send $5, $10, $20.” She framed the request as a defense against intimidation. Right before the midterm elections, her statement in the video accused Trump and his administration of trying to intimidate her and many others. She promised to win the House and Senate to hold the administration accountable.
President Donald Trump responded to the situation from the Oval Office. He said Omar could face jail time in addition to deportation if fraud is proven. Trump called her “a disgrace to our country” during his remarks. He described her as a very dishonest person who hates our country. The President noted that she comes from Somalia, which he called “a real shithouse.” He made these comments while discussing a fraud incentive program.
A Double Standard?
Attorney General Todd Blanche pointed out a sharp difference in how the two sides are treated. Blanche served as Trump’s lawyer when he faced four criminal indictments in 2024. He told “Pod Force One” host Miranda Devine that Omar is free to speak. Blanche stated that the Justice Department did not try to gag her like they did with Trump.
Blanche argued that Democrats are “gaslighting the American people” about weaponization. He said the past Department of Justice worked hard to keep Trump quiet with gag orders. “There’s no effort by the Department of Justice, unlike the last Department of Justice that worked very hard to keep President Trump quiet,” he added, according to the New York Post. The investigation centers on whether Omar or her father lied about her birth year. The central question concerns whether she was a minor when her father became a citizen in 2000.
Border Czar Tom Homan said the outcome depends entirely on the evidence found. “Of course, if you lie during the naturalization process, there is a process to denaturalize somebody,” Homan said, according to Fox News. He confirmed that a criminal investigation is underway involving Omar. The investigation continues as her family remains at the home while she stays in the shadows.
