Katie Zacharia Starts Press Duty On Columbus Day

The White House made the announcement on a Friday, and the new press secretary hits the ground running just days later. This is not a slow rollout. It is a direct move to fill a gap in the room where the President speaks to the nation.

President Donald Trump moved fast to fill the spot left by Karoline Leavitt. Leavitt stepped down in August to focus on her family after having her second child. Her departure left the daily briefing schedule thinner at a time when clear messaging matters most. Per Breitbart, Trump announced on Sunday that Zacharia will begin her term as Press Secretary tomorrow, which is Columbus Day. Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Press Briefing Room will host her initial news conference.

A Mother of Four Takes the Podium

Here is the thing that changes the dynamic of the room. Zacharia is a 41-year-old mother of four. She is not a career politician who has never raised a child. She is a California native and a practicing attorney who earned her law degree in 2011. She brings experience from the private sector and the federal government. Truth Social’s parent entity, Trump Media & Technology Group, employed her as a senior communications adviser previously. Her prior role involved serving as a spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs within the Department of Homeland Security.

She knows the job because she has done the work. She has served as general counsel for conservative grassroots groups. She has appeared as an analyst on Fox News and Newsmax, making her a familiar face to conservative audiences. In swing states that were key, Trump publicly acknowledged her dedicated campaign efforts. He highlighted her consistent support for his platform when he made the appointment. These credentials position her to defend cabinet decisions and explain administration priorities without apology.

What She Said About the Job

Zacharia knows what she is walking into. She called the role an “honor of a lifetime” in her statement. Describing the honor of a lifetime, she wrote about serving President Trump and the American people at this critical 250-year mark. She sees the work ahead clearly. “The work ahead is to continue delivering strong results for our Country and communicating to the American people the major wins that this Administration is making every single day,” she wrote.

She is ready to talk to the press, not just for them. To share that record, I anticipate collaborating with reporters nationwide and the White House press corps. This is her mandate. She is leaving her role at Truth Social to become the 37th press secretary. She is stepping up to tell the story of the administration’s success to the American people.

The President’s Trust in Her

Trump trusts her to handle the room. He called her “a great person” while departing the White House on Friday. He spoke directly to the reporters waiting there. “She’s a friend of most of you. I know she likes people. She likes all of you, actually. I don’t know if that’s good or bad … she’s going to be, I think, terrific,” he told reporters. That is high praise from a man who knows the press corps better than anyone.
