NFL Stars And Trump Host Halloween Events Across The Country

Spooky season is here, and the fun started early this year. Two very different groups celebrated the holiday. One group gathered at a football team’s party. The other group gathered on the White House lawn. Both events happened on the same night.
All ages of trick-or-treaters were hosted by President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump. The South Lawn of the White House served as the venue for the event. It ran from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children in costumes received candy from the first family. Air Force One flew over the building twice during the party. Construction on the state ballroom happened at the same time. The president had just returned from a campaign rally in South Carolina.
The Lions Bring The Fun
While the Trumps handed out candy, the Detroit Lions held their own party. Captain Aidan Hutchinson hosted the annual event. He dressed as Waluigi from the Super Mario Bros. video games. Quarterback Jared Goff went as Bobby Boucher from the movie The Waterboy. His wife, Christen Harper, played Vicki Vallencourt. She even wore a hat for South Central Louisiana State University.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs chose a different path. He put on aviators and a wig. He became “Michael Jackson at the Grammy Awards .” The Daily Wire noted the attention to detail in his costume. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown also attended. He showed off his gang member outfit on a recent podcast.
Why The Costumes Matter
St. Brown explained the reason for the gathering. He said bonding is key for the players. He highlighted the holiday as a special time. “Team bonding is very important for the team, especially for Halloween, just a time to dress up, an excuse to dress up, an excuse to go out with the guys, with your loved ones,” Brown said. Other teammates joined in the fun. Linebacker Derek Barnes wore a Spiderman costume. Defensive tackle Tyleik Williams dressed as rapper Soulja Boy.
Coaches were not allowed at the party. This rule kept the event focused on the players. The Washington Examiner reported that the Trumps also greeted War Secretary Pete Hegseth. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller was there too. They brought their families to the event.
A Night Of Tradition
The contrast between the two events shows the reach of the holiday. One event focused on government tradition. The other focused on team spirit. Both groups honored the date. The White House event included military aircraft flyovers. The Lions party included movie references and video game characters.
Mark J. Burns wrote the report on the NFL costumes for Sport & State. He noted that the weather in Detroit can be brutal on Halloween. The team now lives in the Sunshine State.
