The Enthusiasm Gap in Dallas

A new poll shows a sharp divide within the Republican party right before the election. Only 51% of traditional Republicans say they are excited to vote, according to the Daily Signal. This number stands in stark contrast to the 77% of Trump Republicans who feel ready to go to the polls. The data comes from Cygnal, a firm run by pollster Brent Buchanan.

Buchanan told the Daily Signal that the party actually consists of two different groups. He explained that one group identifies with the president while the other sticks to party values. The significance of this division lies in the differing appearance rates of the two groups. The gap between them is now 26 points within the party itself.

Speaker Mike Johnson addressed the crowd at the Republican National Committee convention in Dallas this week. He warned that the fight is about more than just the next two years in Congress. Johnson said the country is being attacked from within and that communists could enter Congress next year. He told the audience, “Good evening patriots and welcome to Dallas Texas!”

Focus on Cost of Living

Voters want to know how Republicans will fix the high cost of living. Buchanan noted that people are getting hit hard by rising prices for insurance and gas. He noted that his company was forced to take on a 12.6% rise in health coverage this year. The pollster said Americans care more about money leaving their pockets than money coming in.

Rep. Brandon Gill told the Daily Signal that the party must pass Trump’s policies into law. He argued that they should codify executive orders before the president leaves office. Gill listed sanctuary cities as a top priority along with the DOGE front. He believes these popular policies ensure tax dollars are not being wasted.

Rep. Mike Lawler echoed these concerns about immigration and border security. According to him, terminating sanctuary cities is essential since most Americans support that objective. Lawler wants to see these issues come to the floor for a vote in Congress. He also brought the family of Sheridan Gorman to the stage to share their story.

Legislative Urgency Before January

Republicans have a guaranteed majority until January. House Speaker Johnson asserted that no Congress since 1789 has been more productive in history. He noted that the House passed over 900 pieces of legislation during this term. This includes the SAVE America Act, which was passed four times already.

However, the Senate failed to advance much of this legislation this year. The Daily Signal noted that the SAVE America Act is not on Majority Leader John Thune’s agenda. Voters put Trump in charge expecting results on the cost of gas, groceries, and housing. Two years later, many of those same concerns remain top of mind for the public.

Rep. August Pfluger and the Republican Study Committee are working on a plan to lower costs. Their proposal is called “Making the American Dream Affordable Again.” A Heritage Foundation report cautions that living expenses have become too expensive for workers. This report contends that Americans require immediate relief rather than waiting until after the election.
