President Trump banned CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House. He called their reporting “FAKE NEWS” in a post on Truth Social. He accused them of writing “FICTION and LIES” about his team. The move came on a Monday. It was CNN’s turn to lead the pool that day.

The Email That Changed Everything

Fox News D.C. Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton sent an email to the group. He is the chairman of the White House TV pool. Per Daily Wire, he said the TV pool would stop covering events right away.

“This is to advise that, effective today, the TV pool will not be covering events designated as pool coverage of the President,” Boughton wrote.

He explained why in the same note. This action follows the White House’s position preventing CNN from fulfilling its assigned pool duties. “There will be no replacement pool put in place,” he stated.

The pool usually has five members. CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox News rotate the spot daily. They share their video with everyone else. Per Breitbart, the White House press office showed no camera on the schedule for the President’s ribbon cutting at 1:45 p.m. Eastern.

Guidance also showed no pool camera for the trip to the U.N. General Assembly. The White House will still broadcast events on its own YouTube page. They will use their own video crew as they have done before.

A New Reality for the Press

The White House has not given a new comment on the Fox News move. The ban stands as of this morning. Five networks used to share the work. Now, one of the biggest names is gone from the room.

Boughton’s email is clear. There is no replacement for CNN. The group cannot function without the banned outlet or a new one to take its place. The President called the ban a response to bad reporting. Fox News called it a reason to stop covering the President entirely.

The public will see the events, but not through the traditional pool feed. The White House crew will run the cameras. The networks that remain will get the video from the government. The old system of shared access is broken.
