The New Acting Secretary
President Donald Trump named Adam Telle as the acting Army secretary on Thursday. This move follows the departure of Dan Driscoll earlier this week. Telle currently holds the position of Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. The appointment took effect immediately according to reports. Telle did not serve in the Army before taking this role.
Trump posted the news on Truth Social to confirm the change. “I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become Acting Secretary of the Army, effective immediately,” Trump wrote. He added a brief note of support for the new leader. The President made his stance clear on social media.
Why Driscoll Left
Driscoll submitted his resignation late on the evening of August 31. Reports indicate he told close associates he wanted to leave effective Labor Day. The Washington Examiner noted these resignations often follow public disagreements. Driscoll reportedly faced tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over officer removals. The Wall Street Journal reported his departure was expected in the coming days. Driscoll called his time in the role “the honor of a lifetime” before leaving.
Anna Kelly, the White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary, issued a statement commending Driscoll. According to her, he furthered the President’s agenda to “Make America Strong Again at the Department of the Army.” Kelly noted the Army is more powerful thanks to his work. Driscoll stated that Wednesday marks his “last full day” in the role of Army secretary. The exit leaves a gap in leadership that must be filled quickly.
Who Might Take Over Next
It remains unclear if Trump will nominate Telle for the permanent seat. The Pentagon is looking at other candidates for the full-time job. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell has emerged as a potential replacement. A senior administration official informed Fox News Digital that numerous individuals desire Parnell for the position. Parnell is a former Army captain with combat experience in Afghanistan.
Certain reports indicate that Army Undersecretary Mike Obadal might also serve as acting secretary. This would happen once Driscoll’s departure is fully finalized. The situation changes fast as the team settles on a final choice. The White House has not confirmed a permanent nominee yet.
