Trump Says Leakers Should Be Shot Over Iran Raid Timing

President Donald Trump explicitly called for government workers to be executed if they leak sensitive military secrets to the news media. This stark demand came during a campaign rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on a Wednesday in October 2026. The President framed the issue as a matter of life and death for the nation. He stated that leakers should be shot, a position he repeated multiple times to the crowd.

Trump focused his anger on a specific alleged leak regarding the timing of a military strike against Iran. He described a planned raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities that he claimed was compromised before it began. NBC News reported the President claimed a leak disclosed our departure and arrival times. He claimed this leak forced him to call off the initial raid. The President later said he and General Dan Caine decided to move forward with the mission two days later.

The White House has taken steps to stop information from reaching the press since Trump returned to office. His administration has proposed new rules requiring federal employees to sign nondisclosure agreements. Federal investigators also subjected about 50 members of the U.S. military’s Joint Staff to polygraph tests. The New York Post reported these tests pressed soldiers on whether they shared classified details with journalists. These actions show a clear shift toward stricter control over government information.

The Cost of a Single Leak

Trump argued that the specific leak about the raid timing endangered the entire operation. He claimed the leak appeared in major news outlets like The New York Times and CNN. “They leaked that we were leaving at 12:07 from Missouri,” Trump said, according to the Washington Examiner. He insisted this detail allowed the enemy to prepare for the attack. The President said the reason for the attack was defense to stop a weapon that could kill millions. He believes such a betrayal requires the harshest possible punishment.

He compared the journalists covering his rally to the leakers he condemned. Trump told the crowd that reporters who leak false information are “almost as bad as a leaker.” He asked the audience, “Oh, they leak false information. That makes them a leaker, right?” This rhetoric targets the media directly as an enemy of the state. The President has previously called the news media the “true Enemy of the People.” His comments at the rally doubled down on this long-standing view.

Historical Precedent for Execution

Trump justified his call for execution by pointing to how the military handled such crimes in the past. “In the old days, we used to shoot leakers,” he told the crowd in Arizona. He explained that this severe punishment was necessary when they leaked attack times. The President believes that without this threat, enemies will gain an unfair advantage. He explained the attack aims to prevent a weapon capable of destroying millions of lives. This logic drives his demand for the death penalty for leakers.

The President’s comments follow a recent decision to approve a military firing squad for a convicted shooter. Trump approved the use of a firing squad to execute Nidal Hassan, a Fort Hood shooter. Hassan killed 12 U.S. service members in that attack. This approval came just a week before the President spoke about leakers in Arizona. The timing suggests a consistent stance on using lethal force for those who harm the military.

Trump will hold another rally in Montana on October 14, 2026, to continue his message. He plans to address the issue of leaks and national security at that stop. The President’s position on executing leakers remains firm and unyielding.
