Trump Weighs Strikes On Houthis After Saudi Airport Attack

An American citizen died in a deadly attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The Iran-backed Houthi group carried out the strike on Saturday. Now, President Trump is weighing a military response. He told reporters he might join Saudi Arabia in hitting back.

The attack left 12 people dead and over 300 injured. Victims included nationals from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. The Houthis have promised even more violence against civilian areas. They view airports as active war zones for their forces. This shift changes the rules of the conflict in the Middle East.

The Houthi Threat

A Houthi spokesperson issued a blunt warning over the weekend. They said airports have become “a theatre of operations for our forces.” They urged “everyone to take our warnings seriously.” The group also blamed Saudi Arabia for any failed attempts to stop their drones. They claimed the Saudis bear “responsibility for any failed interceptions.”

Until this attack, President Trump had held back. He seemed to think the Houthis were sticking to a May cease-fire. That deal stopped them from attacking ships in the Red Sea. He also wanted to avoid a messy, wider war with Iran. But the new attack on the airport has changed the situation. Trump called the event “very bad” and “terrible.” He noted that the Saudis are good fighters, but the attack itself was wrong.

A Decision in the Balance

President Trump told reporters on Saturday that a choice is coming. “We may. We’re going to look at it,” he said, according to the New York Post. He explained that he just learned about the recent strike. He added, “We move very quickly.” The President said he has communication with the Houthis. He will see what happens next.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has pushed for action. He reportedly asked Trump to attack the Houthis, similar to US strikes earlier this year. The US hit targets between March and May of this year. Saudi Arabia has already launched two airstrikes on Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. This is a direct response to the airport bombing.

International Reaction

World leaders are condemning the violence. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke out on Saturday. According to him, the terrorist Houthis launched recent attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which the United States strongly condemns. Rubio called the attacks “reprehensible” and a “blatant disregard for innocent civilian life.” He demanded that they stop now.

Rubio also declared that we stand with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people. He extended condolences to the victims and their families. Tensions have been rising for weeks. Last month, Riyadh intercepted a drone near the holy city of Mecca. That incident outraged the Muslim world. The conflict is widening, and the US is watching closely.

The President has made it clear: the US will act fast if it decides to strike. The Houthis say they are ready for more. The Saudis say they will not back down. The world waits to see if American forces will join the fight.
