Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) went after Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed for retaliating against Rep. Haley Stevens for challenging his positions on Israel and his rhetoric about Jewish political spending.
Fetterman told Jewish Insider El-Sayed's criticism of Stevens, along with reports that his campaign barred her from future events, was an overreaction in the final days of the election.
"Rep. Haley Stevens simply held Abdul El-Sayed accountable for his views on Israel and fixation with Jewish money," Fetterman said. "El-Sayed is going after a woman and banning her from campaign events for having an opinion.”
"El-Sayed's overreaction demonstrates why he struggles with groups of Michigan voters. He has the worst case of little man syndrome I've ever seen," Fetterman added.
The dispute grew Sunday when Stevens endorsed Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers after attending a Detroit church service with him.
Stevens said she remained a Democrat but would vote for Rogers.
She pointed to El-Sayed's association with political commentator Hasan Piker and said the Democratic nominee had made clear she was unwelcome in his campaign.
The discord between the two started earlier in the week when Stevens urged El-Sayed to condemn an ad supporting his candidacy that she described as antisemitic and to remove a separate campaign ad featuring Tucker Carlson.
