Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Weinstein received his sentence Wednesday in a New York federal court. One year ago, he was convicted of a first-degree criminal sexual act stemming from the assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006.

Haley spoke about how the assault has affected her.

She said Weinstein, 74, "abused his position and power," causing a "devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away," per multiple outlets, including NBC and CBS.

"Making the decision to speak up will have me looking over my shoulder for years to come," Haley said. "It's a life sentence for me."

Weinstein denied all allegations and apologized to "anyone I may have hurt by my actions."

"I do have remorse for Miriam Haley's pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence," he said.

Weinstein was originally given a 23-year sentence for a 2020 conviction on rape and sexual assault charges. The case was overturned four years later and the case was retried in 2025.

The judge declared a mistrial on a count of third-degree rape of Jessica Mann.

A juror refused to continue deliberations and prosecutors declined to pursue another trial.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said they were focused on getting justice through Weinstein's sentence in Haley's case.

"We also shared our recommendation to the court that Mr. Weinstein be sentenced to 20 years in prison, which would account for the significant harms his actions have caused Ms. Haley," Bragg said. "I want survivors of sexual violence in Manhattan to know that we believe you, and we will fight for you. We stand with survivors, today and every day."
