Mamdani’s Presence at 9/11 Ceremony ‘Offends’ Giuliani

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani does not want Mayor Zohran Mamdani at the ceremony at Ground Zero marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Giuliani told Newsmax Sunday Mamdani should stay away from the event on Friday.

"There's no question he should," Giuliani told Sunday Agenda. "I mean, the reality is this ceremony is for the families and for America to remember historically."

Giuliani was mayor of NYC when al-Qaida terrorists attacked the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. He said Mamdani's presence would offend him personally.

"Having lost friends there and being very close to many of the families, it offends me that he's coming," Giuliani said.

More than 99,000 people have signed an online petition stating the don’t want Mamdani there.

Mamdani signed executive orders declaring Sept. 11 a citywide "Day of Remembrance and Service" and updating New York City's emergency preparedness procedures.

The signing drew criticism after Mamdani handed a ceremonial pen to his chief counsel, Ramzi Kassem.

Kassem previously represented Ahmed al-Darbi, an al-Qaida operative who pleaded guilty before a U.S. military commission to terrorism charges stemming from the 2002 bombing of a French oil tanker.

Mamdani said Friday that New York would "remember the horrific act of terror" that occurred 25 years ago and those killed in the attacks and their aftermath.

Giuliani said the attacks must be taught to younger generations as the country remembers the day.

"Never forget means we have to teach people about it," Giuliani said. "We don't want to give them propaganda. We just want to give them the truth."

Giuliani said Fox also has kept him off the air since the 2020 election, including from its coverage of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

"Look, I haven't been on a 9/11 show there for eight years," Giuliani said. "For the first 12 years, I was on constantly at 9/11."
