Trump Agrees With Vance Over War Affecting Midterms: ‘I’d Do It Again’

President Donald Trump agreed with Vice President JD Vance’s assessment of what caused many in the GOP to lose the midterm elections — the war with Iran.
Trump spoke about the midterms Wednesday when he was asked about Vance blaming the war on the Democrats coming out on top.
“Well, I think it’s largely true, because it drove gasoline up a little bit short-term. And probably that’s — that’s probably it’s true,” Trump said. “But at the same time, if I had to do it again, I’d have to do it again, because long-term, it’s the only answer. You can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump was then asked if the war was worth it.
“I do, yeah. Well, we have no choice. I thought oil would go up a lot more. You have no choice. You have to do it. You can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon, or everything that you see here some day might not exist,” the president responded.
Trump then turned his attention to the White House ballroom currently under construction. He boasted earlier the ballroom would feature a “very powerful ceiling” and be “drone proof, missile proof, and bullet proof.” It might be the only structure to survive if Iran had nuclear weapons.
Trump’s remarks came after Vance wrote on X, “The reason we lost is the war.”
“If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay,” Vance continued. “Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there.”
Vance is widely seen as Trump’s heir apparent, but saw his stock drop in prediction markets as Trump administration outsider Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) numbers rose following the election.
