Trump Blasts New York Magazine Coverage Doubting His 9/11 Recount

President Donald Trump is standing by his account of what he allegedly experienced on Sept. 11, 2001, and is lashing out at New York Magazine for its coverage of remarks he made during a Steel Across America event at the White House Ellipse Tuesday.

Trump said two firefighters picked him up off the ground near the U.S. Steel Building in New York City in the aftermath of the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. 

He took to Truth Social after the magazine called his recollection a “weird lie.”

“The Failing New York Magazine wrote a story that I wasn’t down at the World Trade Center after the Tragedy of September 11th, because nobody saw me there,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Well, I don’t think I would be the first thing on anyone’s mind but, I was there, obviously not on the same day as the collapse, but shortly thereafter, with a large group of Construction Workers.”

He also attached a clip of him speaking to reporters by Ground Zero after the attacks nearly 25 years ago. 

“Everything I said was exactly accurate and, to prove the point, I am attaching clips of me there with numerous of my people, including my then Head of Security, Matthew Calamari, who has confirmed that very sad trip to Lower Manhattan, many times, to many different Journalists, but it’s a story that just won’t die,” he wrote.

During the remarks on Tuesday, Trump said he was “down there right after this happened.” He later clarified he was not at Ground Zero “on the same day as the collapse, but shortly thereafter.”

“Everything I said was exactly accurate,” he said. 

Trump also went after New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman by criticizing her reporting that he wanted to speak at the memorial ceremony in New York on Friday, but could not.

Trump said he would not violate the ceremony’s rules prohibiting politicians to speak.

“I have been to the New York solemn ceremony numerous times, and nobody speaks. It is a stated fact that, ‘Politicians and public officials are not permitted to deliver speeches or remarks at the official September 11 anniversary remembrance ceremony at the World Trade Center site in New York,’” he said. 

Trump is scheduled to speak at the Pentagon on Friday to mark the 25th anniversary.
