Trump Claims Convention Beat NFL Season Opener in Ratings

Every fall people hear the football anthem, “Are You Ready for Some Football.”

However, that may change to “Are You Ready for Some Politics,” according to President Donald Trump.

The president announced on Truth Social Thursday that the GOP’s first-ever midterm convention in Dallas fared better than the “overall numbers” for the kickoff of the NFL season.

“The Republican Midterm Convention last night, in Dallas, was a major, sold out hit, far bigger, better, and more important than anyone thought possible. It was really something, streaming all over the place, and really big numbers, despite going up against the NFL. The overall numbers beat the NFL,” Trump wrote.

“The Arena, which was really nice, beat its own attendance records. The place was packed! There were thousands of people outside who couldn’t get in. Screens were provided. I guess people LOVE TRUMP POLITICS! I’ll be there again tonight to close out the show. Exciting “Stuff!” MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” he added.

The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, a rematch of the last Super Bowl, went head-to-head in the season opener.

Trump spoke Wednesday and is set to take the stage again Thursday night as the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams will play.

It’s not clear what specific numbers the president is referring to, as ratings for convention or the NFL game are not yet in. About 28 million viewers tuned in to last year’s opening NFL game.

Ratings for the GOP convention  would also be difficult to calculate, as it was covered on TV outlets like Fox News, and was also livestreamed on outlets, including the Associated Press, and The Blaze.

Trump is using the Dallas convention to boost midterm candidates.

He also touted himself, stating he wasn’t sure if the U.S. would exist if he had not been elected in 2024.

Before the convention, Trump went after at ABC News’ Mary Bruce when she pointed out a report some Republican candidates are avoiding the event out of fear of associating too closely with Trump and hurting their election chances.

He said everyone invited accepted their invitations.

“ABC fake news. One of the worst — you are the worst of all, in my opinion. The reason that some people are not coming is we don’t have room for 500 politicians We have room for the ones that have a close race, if they’re slightly behind or slightly ahead or tied. But we don’t have room for people that are 35 points up and don’t need to be there. We said stay back and campaign. Every politician that we’ve wanted to be there is there,” he said.
