DSA Targets Popular Democrat Running NTSB In Trump Era

The far-left Democratic Socialists of America are trying to remove the lone Democrat running a critical safety agency in the Trump administration. This agency head, Jennifer Homendy, has served under both Republican and Democratic presidents since 2018. She is a straight shooter who investigates accidents, not partisan politics. Yet her own party radicals want her gone because she works with Republicans.
The Radical Backlash
Members of the DSA held a virtual meeting on Oct. 19 to discuss Senate races in Alaska and Texas. During this gathering, some representatives attacked Homendy for being too friendly with GOP lawmakers. A DC Democrat fumed about the group’s true intentions in a statement to the New York Post.
On January 29, 2025, their fury arises because Homendy would not fault Trump regarding a midair crash near Reagan National Airport. At an aviation safety summit held in Anchorage on July 31, she also appeared alongside Alaska Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan. This was while the incumbent senator faced a tight race against Democratic rival Mary Peltola. In that contest, Trump is vigorously campaigning to preserve Sullivan’s position.
Why Safety Matters More Than Politics
Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz shares a warm connection with Homendy, who has backed MAGA representatives within the House. Even in a purple state, she “propped up” Wisconsin Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden. A Washington Dem insider told the New York Post that these efforts will grow. “I suspect this DSA effort of trying to ‘out’ Democrats who have relationships with Republicans will expand in 2027,” the Washington Dem insider said.
Despite this pressure, a source close to the board defended her nonpartisan stance. “I can tell you: [Homendy] actually doesn’t give a s–t about political party, and if the NTSB became political in any direction, that would be the end of aviation and transportation safety in the US,” the source said. Homendy declined to comment on the matter. The DSA is now looking into the situation as their influence grows after recent wins.
