The Truth Behind the Riots
Students in France started protesting school conditions, but the chaos grew much worse. A new memo from Paris police says far-left groups actually helped start the violence. Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s La France Insoumise party is connected to these riots in the report. This group faces national elections soon. The police found a specific strategy at work. As national elections near, a strategy of fomenting unrest by the most radical political and union structures to enforce their views is outlined in the memo. This suggests the protests were not just angry kids. They were organized acts to cause trouble.
Over 500 schools stayed closed on Monday because of the danger. Education Minister Édouard Geffray said the buildings are not safe yet. He observed that “Clearly, this poses a risk to both our staff and our students”. The damage is real and widespread. Some 24 schools were set on fire or ransacked. At least 78 members of the education ministry got hurt. The riots began on September 17 with peaceful calls for better resources. But they turned violent quickly. Barricades and bins were set ablaze across the country. The Nelson Mandela High School in Nantes was burned down.
Who Is Behind the Violence
A police report states that young rioters showed “a clear desire for disorder, notably through the commission of urban violence, without any specific social demands” They were not just asking for new desks or teachers. They wanted to cause chaos. The memo states they were “being pushed into these actions by far-left elements identified both within student union structures at Paris 8 University (Le Poing levé, FSE), or Paris Nanterre (FSE)” RedState reported on this damning memo first. Breitbart News also shared the findings from the intelligence branch. The unrest started in the Paris region and spread nationwide.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu made the intelligence assessment public on Friday. He confirmed that French intelligence sees the riots as orchestrated by proxies of the far-left party. Jean-Luc Mélenchon is running for president. He has denied that his party was involved. The protests left over 5,000 individuals detained. An overwhelming 85 percent of those detainees were minors under the age of 18. The Young Revolutionary Communists were also named in the report. These groups worked together to disrupt the schools. The violence included arson and assaults against police.
The Roadmap Ahead
French officials are now trying to fix the mess. Prime Minister Lecornu announced a “roadmap” with new decisions to address the problem. The Education Ministry said 413 educational institutions “have undergone or are undergoing” varied forms of disruptions. This number is down 27 percent from the disruptions seen on Friday. Per reports, the calm period over the weekend helped lower those numbers. However, student unions are calling for more protests on Tuesday, October 6. The nation is bracing for more potential violence. The government must ensure safety before schools can reopen. The memo proves the unrest was not a simple accident.
