A shooter entered a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, and killed a pregnant woman on Friday night. The attack left six other people wounded inside the Solano Town Center mall. Police say the incident was targeted and involved just one suspect.
Gunfire erupted at about 8:30 p.m. on October 31, 2026. Constance Hages, 31, was the woman who died and her family told authorities she was pregnant. Three male victims are in critical condition while two others have been released from the hospital. The suspect remains at large as officers search for answers.
The Store Was Packed With Shoppers
Local news reported that the store sells Halloween costumes and decor for the holiday. The Fairfield Police Department issued a statement on Facebook Saturday confirming the details. The shooting “stemmed from a targeted incident involving one suspect,” police said in their report.
Jocelyn Lopez Tabares, 15, was buying last-minute accessories for her costume when the shots rang out. She told the California Post, “I felt like I was going to die.” To protect her from the gunfire, her sister pulled her onto the concrete floor.
“I thought it was going to be my last time living. I didn’t want to die that way,” Lopez Tabares recalled to reporters. She initially thought the loud noises were just popping balloons before realizing the danger. The teen said, “We were in line getting ready to leave” before the violence started.
ABC7 News supplied the tragic details about the victims and the timeline of events. Three men aged 16, 19, and 32 are fighting for their lives in the hospital. A 23-year-old man is in critical but stable condition while two other men were treated and released.
Police Search For The Shooter
Authorities have not released the name of the suspect or the person they were targeting. The Fairfield Police Department stated there is no further information on who may have been the intended target. Video footage shows shoppers running and ducking for cover during the chaotic scene.
RedState reported that the incident happened inside a busy mall on the West Coast. Local ABC7 News confirmed that the woman who died was identified as Constance Hages. Her family shared with officials that she was carrying a child at the time of the attack.
Video clips shared online capture the terrifying moments as the deadly shooting unfolded Friday night. Shoppers fled the scene while others hid behind checkout counters to avoid getting hit. The community is now waiting for more details as the investigation continues.
