Houthis Hit Saudi Airports As Turkey And Pakistan Rush Troops To Defend Riyadh

A Direct Strike on Civilian Hubs

The Houthis fired a massive volley of missiles and drones at two Saudi airports on Monday night. Jazan’s King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport and Najran International Airport served as the targets for this assault. Material damage and minor injuries to three people were confirmed by The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation as resulting from the strikes.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated clearly on Monday that the Saudis have a right to defend themselves against these threats. He noted the obvious danger posed by the Houthi attacks on their soil. This is not a border skirmish; it is an assault on the very infrastructure that keeps the region moving.

Houthi official Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree admitted his group launched “a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles and drones” throughout the strike, according to the Washington Examiner. He also warned “all international airlines using Saudi airspace to cease their flights” immediately after the strikes. The Saudi agency said they are working to verify the safety of the facilities for passengers.

Regional Allies Mobilize for Defense

The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement is now in full effect as nations rush to aid Riyadh. To support Saudi Arabia against the Houthis, Pakistan and Turkey consented to a “rapid deployment” of troops. This agreement was inked in August, and it is now being tested by real combat.

Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman declared, “The committee agreed to activate collective deterrence measures within the framework of the Alliance in response to the attacks and all those responsible for them.” The goal is to stop the Iran-backed proxy from creating more mischief in the region.

I see this as a necessary stand against a group that targets civilian travel and energy supplies. The Houthis claimed they also hit King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and an Aramco refinery, though Saudi officials did not confirm those specific claims. They did report intercepting many ballistic missiles and drones targeting the kingdom.

Securing the Bab al-Mandeb Strait is now a top priority for the Saudi-led counter-offensive. This strait ensures that an alternative route for oil supplies other than the Strait of Hormuz remains safe. If the Houthis control this waterway, they can choke global energy flows and hurt the American economy.

The committee’s decision to activate collective deterrence shows that regional allies are done waiting for threats to grow. They are moving troops now to stop the escalation before it reaches our shores or our wallets. The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement was designed for this exact moment of crisis.

We must watch how quickly these allied forces arrive and how they coordinate with Saudi defenses. The Houthis have shown they will attack civilian sites and claim credit for it. The response from Turkey and Pakistan proves that the cost of aggression is rising for the Houthi rebels.
