Hostin Makes Bold Prediction
Sunny Hostin, a co-host on “The View”, forecasted on Thursday that November would see Texas voters turn the state blue. She spoke during a panel about the tight race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton. Hostin stated her belief clearly to the audience. “I think we will. I think we will see Texas go blue, actually. I really do,” she remarked, according to the New York Post. This comment came as new data showed Talarico ahead in recent surveys.
Hostin pointed to September polling numbers where Talarico was ahead. She noted that a Democrat has not won a statewide office in Texas in 30 years. The data shows Talarico leading Paxton among women by a wide margin. Among voters aged 18 to 29, the gap is even larger.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that Talarico’s edge is a sign of frustration with current leadership. “I mean, the fact that Texas is in play speaks to the moment right now that people are so frustrated with the current leadership,” she said. Griffin called the situation a “mess of the president’s own making.” She suggested Sen. John Cornyn would have been a better Republican candidate than Paxton.
Willie Nelson Joins the Race
Country music legend Willie Nelson has endorsed Democrat James Talarico for the US Senate. Houston Chronicle received a video from Nelson stating Talarico is “a good man, who will be a good senator for the state of Texas.” This endorsement follows Nelson’s appearance on stage with Talarico during his 4th of July Picnic in Austin. Nelson has a long history of donating to Democrats and supporting left-wing causes.
Nelson has faced legal trouble in the past regarding unpaid taxes. Nearly all of his assets exceeding $16.7 million were confiscated by the IRS in November 1990 due to unpaid taxes. He eventually settled with the agency for $9 million after three years. Despite this history, he continues to be politically active on issues like pot legalization and open borders.
Media Focus Shifts to Paxton
Major news networks have recently focused heavily on the Republican candidate, Ken Paxton. “CBS Mornings” criticized Paxton on Sept. 17 regarding a woman’s death linked to Texas’s “very restrictive” abortion laws. A reporter asked the dead woman’s aunt what she would say to Paxton.
Leaked audio featuring Paxton complaining about President Donald Trump started being promoted by networks as well. ABC’s “World News Tonight” highlighted the claim on Sept. 30 that the Dallas midterm convention damaged Paxton’s standing. ABC reporter Mary Bruce noted that Paxton has weathered personal scandals and corruption allegations. Talarico was portrayed by her as gaining traction even within some of the state’s most conservative regions.
An October Fox News poll revealed Talarico held a net positive personal rating. In contrast, Paxton is underwater with likely Texas voters. The poll shows Talarico leading Paxton overall. These results are within the margin of sampling error, but the trend lines are clear. Some on the panel expressed caution despite the numbers. “Two-thousand sixteen left me scared,” said co-host Ana Navarro. She warned that hope alone will not win an election.
