Trump Pledges Veto Power After Democrats Win Congress

President Trump vowed Tuesday to veto “insane” legislation after Democrats seized control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections. He told Fox News he was surprised by the results but remains ready to work with the new majority once they face his vetoes.

At least seven Senate seats and over two dozen House districts were won by Democrats in the Tuesday vote. This outcome places the GOP in a minority position for the final two years of the Trump presidency. The president plans to use his veto authority as a primary tool to force negotiations. He stated that after a few months of rejections, lawmakers will ask how to get things done.

Gas Prices and Candidate Quality

Trump told Bret Baier on Fox News that high gasoline prices, not the war with Iran, drove many voters away from the GOP. He argued that people agree with his Iran strategy but balked at the short-term cost of paying more at the pump. The president noted that history will show his actions against Iran were far more important than this election night.

He also pointed to “candidate quality” as a major reason for the poor Republican performance. A White House official told Breitbart News that while Trump voters appear when he is on the ballot, the president endorsed candidates who failed to energize the base. The official described the mood inside the White House as “defiant” despite the projected losses.

In a Texas district redrawn to favor Republicans, Democrat Johnny Garcia is projected to win against Trump-backed candidate Carlos De La Cruz. Garcia, a sheriff’s deputy, defeated the Air Force veteran after redistricting pushed the previous Democratic incumbent into another seat. “Carlos De La Cruz just called and conceded the race, and I thanked him for a hard fought campaign,” Garcia posted on X.

The Veto Strategy Ahead

Trump shared an image of a red cap with “VETO” stitched on the front to mark his new role. He told Breitbart News he might become “Mr. Veto” if Democrats took the majority, a prediction that came true on Tuesday. “Well, if that happens, I guess I’ll become Mr. Veto,” he said in a previous statement.

The president revealed that several Democratic lawmakers have already reached out to him to open lines of communication. “You know, I have a lot of friends that are Democrats, believe it or not. I’ve already spoken to some of them,” Trump said. He expects these contacts to grow as the new Congress prepares to send bills to his desk.

While the White House official warned that Trump’s resolve to stop the “Radical Left” is only getting stronger, the immediate focus is on managing a divided government. The president remains confident that the legislative process will eventually lead to deals after the initial clash of vetoes. This approach sets the stage for a tense two years where the executive branch holds significant power to block Democratic priorities.
