Trump Targets Michigan Race

During a broad interview with Fox News anchor Trey Gowdy, President Donald Trump declared that Michigan Democratic Senate hopeful Abdul el Sayed is “out of it.” As reported by the Washington Examiner, the President contends that nominees with socialist leanings pose a threat to moderate Democrats in the November elections, describing the scenario as a significant danger to the nation.

“I look at the people running like in Michigan, I watched his interview the other day with Jesse Waters,” Trump remarked, referencing a Tuesday appearance by el Sayed on Jesse Watters Primetime. The President characterized the candidate as “out of it” and warned of the perilous nature of the situation, while clarifying that he was not making a moral judgment on the individual. “I’m not saying [he’s] a good guy, bad guy, I’m just saying this is big, big trouble for our country,” Trump stated.

El Sayed Faces Backlash

The contest between el Sayed and his Republican rival Mike Rogers intensified over the weekend. On Saturday, el Sayed issued an apology to Jewish Democrats for remarks concerning an antisemitic assault on a synagogue in March. Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina voiced his backing for el Sayed, asserting that “all of us deserve second chances.” Meanwhile, Rogers unveiled a new ad on Saturday attacking the socialist Democrat over previous comments regarding football.

In response to the criticism on X, el Sayed argued that other matters were detrimental to the nation. “‘Bad for our country’ is expanding a trade war with Canada that’s costing us all thousands of dollars,” el Sayed said. Rogers has built his campaign around past statements by el Sayed and also condemned the candidate’s choice to appear with internet personality Hasan Piker, who previously claimed America deserved the Sep. 11 attacks.

Trump Links Democrats to Communism

During the interview, Trump connected el Sayed’s ideology to communism. “I think we’re going to do very well because we have communists, we have a party that’s been infiltrated by bad thought, by bad policy,” Trump said. He clarified that while he previously focused on socialism, he now identifies a different problem. “I used to talk about socialism but this isn’t socialism, this is largely communism,” he stated. The President argues that Democrats are compelled to vote against their own beliefs to maintain control.

Trump forecasted that the Democratic Party would lose its grip on power unless it alters its strategy. Despite these warnings, he expressed confidence that his own side would perform well.
