Trump Welcomes Xi To DC Amid Iran Alliance Concerns

Chinese President Xi Jinping was personally welcomed to the United States by President Donald Trump. The two leaders arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland just before 6 p.m. This rare greeting marks the first time an American president has met a visiting world leader at this airport since 1962. Six F-16s and six F-22s lined the tarmac to show American military strength. The visit sets the stage for three days of high-stakes talks on trade, fentanyl, and regional conflicts.

Expert Warnings on Iran Ties

Fox News received a statement from Jonathan Schanzer, executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, indicating Trump needs to caution Xi about a particular partnership. Schanzer called the relationship between China and Iran a “dangerous alliance.” He noted that Chinese help for the Iranian regime covers many different areas. “The first is, of course, the provision of drone parts and motors,” Schanzer said. “This has actually helped the Islamic Republic attack all of its neighbors”

Schanzer also pointed to dual-use chemicals aiding Iran’s missile program. He added that Iranian targeting looks too precise to be accidental. “So that looks like it may be helped from the Chinese as well,” he told Fox News. The expert argued that an economic relationship keeps the Islamic Republic afloat while it disrupts global oil markets. He believes Trump needs to demand that Xi stop all of this support immediately.

Strategic Moves Ahead of Talks

Breitbart reports that national security experts say Trump has strengthened the U.S. position before this summit. Michael Lucci, founder of State Armor, noted that the administration is engaging in unprecedented maneuvering. He highlighted a new deal with Denmark and Greenland to secure a dominant position in the Arctic.

According to the Breitbart report, Trump has also guided NATO allies into increasing their defense expenditures. He has armed Ukraine and Taiwan while depriving China of cheap oil from Venezuela and Iran. Mike Martin, a former senior national security official, said confronting China is a central part of Trump’s agenda. Martin cautioned that the U.S. cannot afford to exchange one strategic dependency for another.

Trade and Security on the Table

The New York Post details that the upcoming talks will cover tariffs and Beijing’s role in conflicts. Trump previously ramped up tariffs on Chinese goods to near 150 percent before a recent cooling period. That earlier meeting in South Korea saw Xi agree to stop fentanyl exports that killed about 488,000 Americans. The U.S. also stopped advanced chip sales to prevent Beijing from gaining an edge in artificial intelligence.

During the Wednesday arrival, Trump and his wife Melania greeted Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan. A state dinner at the White House scheduled for Thursday is part of the visit. Recent renovations, such as a new granite helipad featuring the presidential seal, have been displayed by Trump. While the personal relationship between the leaders has had ups and downs, the focus remains on concrete agreements.

Schanzer told Fox News that the background of these talks involves great power competition. He noted that the Chinese Communist Party clearly views Taiwan as its primary target. The expert emphasized that the Chinese government is “just not ashamed” of its actions. Trump stands at the bottom of the steps, ready to discuss these serious issues with Xi.
