Radio host Charlamagne Tha God criticized “liberals” Tuesday for portraying President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter as a form of Democratic retaliation against Republicans.

Former Hillary Clinton spokesperson Karen Finney and co-hosts of “The View” suggested Monday that the pardon was a response to Republicans, particularly President-elect Donald Trump, allegedly targeting their political rivals. Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” awarded Biden “Donkey of the Day,” and argued that the pardon serves only the president’s family and should not be framed as a political victory for Democrats over Republicans.

“I’m not mad Joe Biden pardoned his son. I just wish Democrats would stop being cowards and stand on whatever business they are choosing to stand on, even though this decision is very self-serving,” Charlamagne said. “And that’s the other thing — some of you liberals are out there spiking the football, acting like this is some sort of lick back.”

“No, knock it off. Okay. This doesn’t benefit anybody except the Biden family, and it’s not a lick back. If you think it’s a lick back, that’s a false equivalency,” he continued. “You lost the election. Trump is in control of all three branches of government. Hunter Biden being pardoned? Nah, it’s not the same. That’s not a lick back. Get the F out of here.”

The pardon followed months of Biden assuring the American public that he would not interfere after a Delaware jury in June convicted Hunter of knowingly possessing a firearm while being addicted to drugs and making false statements on a purchase document. Hunter had also faced nine charges related to his alleged failure to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes and his alleged submission of falsified tax forms, all of which he pleaded guilty to.

Biden’s statement announcing the pardon included a claim that his son was “singled out” in the legal process due to their relationship, which Charlamagne disputed on Monday. The radio host also asserted Monday that Democrats lack moral superiority over Republicans after the pardon.

“I just want Democrats to stop acting like they are on this moral high ground politically when they have shown us they’re not. You know, whether it’s skipping the primary process when Biden had stepped down and things like Biden pardoning his son,” he said at the time. “Stop acting like y’all are the pure party and Republicans aren’t.”
