Kyle Rittenhouse Suggests the Media Could Face Consequences for the Way It Covered His Trial

KENOSHA, WISCONSIN - NOVEMBER 19: Kyle Rittenhouse enters the courtroom to hear the verdicts in his trial prior to being found not guilty on all counts at the Kenosha County Courthouse on November 19, 2021 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse was found not guilty of all charges in the shooting of three demonstrators, killing two of them, during a night of unrest that erupted in Kenosha after a police officer shot Jacob Blake seven times in the back while being arrested in August 2020. Rittenhouse, from Antioch, Illinois, claimed self-defense who at the time of the shooting was armed with an assault rifle. (Sean Krajacic - Pool/Getty Images)

Kyle Rittenhouse suggested that the media should be held accountable for how it covered his trial.

“There’s going to be some media accountability coming soon,” Rittenhouse said during an interview with Fox News.

The outlet asked Rittenhouse about Nick Sandmann’s settlement with a network. His confrontation with Nathan Phillips, a protester, went viral in 2019.

“Good for him,” Rittenhouse said.

He explained to Fox News he would make a different decision if there were other protests.

“[With] what I was dragged through and what I had to go through — to facing life in prison — I wouldn’t say it was worth it,” Rittenhouse said.

He added, “Hindsight being 20/20.”

Rittenhouse has received praise from lawmakers and others following his trial. During the AmericaFest conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Rittenhouse was met with applause from the crowd.

“Always be humble and look at the positives in life and focus on today and not tomorrow,” Rittenhouse told the crowd when reflecting on his experience.

He continued, “You can only live one day at a time.”

Additionally, Rittenhouse explained his experience of the trial “helped me grow a lot; it’s helped me mature,” adding, “My mentors who have been in my life … they’ve helped make me the person I am today, so thank you for them.”

When asked about his decision to testify, Rittenhouse said, “I wanted to tell my story.”

He went on, “I wanted to tell the world what happened in Kenosha, the truth, unlike what the prosecution tried to do, and that’s why I took the stand.”

Last month, Rittenhouse was acquitted on all charges, as IJR previously reported.

He faced five felony charges, including first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, attempted first-degree homicide, and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

During his testimony, Rittenhouse defended himself.

“I didn’t do anything wrong. I defended myself,” he said.
