A CNN reporter is urging viewers to banish the belief that former President Donald Trump cannot win the 2024 election from their minds.
On Monday, CNN’s senior data reporter Harry Enten highlighted how close a race the general election could be if Trump winds up running against President Joe Biden.
Enten began by showing three polls of the 2024 Republican presidential primary field that show the former president holding around a 40-point lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
“Look at where DeSantis is in all of those polls. Look how far back he is! He doesn’t crack 20% in any of them!” he noted.
Enten pointed out the primary is very different than a general election.
However, he added, “We’ve had three polls that have come out over the last week here. And I want you to take a look at how close this race is at this particular point — granted the general election is over a year away. The largest lead for Joe Biden is just three points — within the margin of error. No clear leader.”

"Take a look at how close this race is…this idea that Trump can't win the general election, I want you to lose that idea. This race is very, very close and Donald Trump is polling better right now than basically at any point during the entire point during the 2020 cycle." pic.twitter.com/c84CyKKs4P

Enten also explained four years ago, Biden was leading the former president by double-digits or “high single-digits.”
“This idea that Donald Trump can’t win the general election, I want you to lose that idea. This race is very, very close, and Donald Trump is polling better right now than basically at any point during the entire 2020 cycle,” he continued.
Finally, Enten added, “After four indictments, it just doesn’t really seem to matter.”
According to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls, Biden is leading Trump by a narrow 0.4%.
