North Carolina 11th Congressional District candidate Madison Cawthorn is sharing his opinion on the Black Lives Matter movement and the recent police reform legislation put forth by Senate Republicans.
Cawthorn achieved a surprise victory when he defeated a candidate selected by White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and endorsed by President Trump in the Republican primary on Tuesday.
Co-host of “The View” Sunny Hostin asked Cawthorn where he stood on police reform and the Black Lives Matter movement as these issues will continue to be important come November.
“I do believe that black lives matter, I believe that all life is sacred,” Cawthorn said.

Cawthorn went on to voice his support for the JUSTICE Act introduced by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) on June 17.
“I’m always for having higher standards for our peacekeepers in our country. I’m always for raising the standards of any government entity,” Cawthorn said.
Scott’s bill calls for making lynching a hate crime, encouraging the use of body cameras, and pushing for better training for police, as IJR previously reported.
The introduction of the JUSTICE Act came shortly after House Democrats introduced police reform legislation of their own called the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
The House approved the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act just one day after Senate Democrats blocked the JUSTICE Act.
Cawthorn encouraged more training and conflict resolution classes for police officers.
While he recognized the significance of peaceful protests, he expressed his appreciation for police officers across the nation.
“We have very sober minded people who are coming out and they just want to have an honest and fair debate and I think that’s absolutely fair,” Cawthorn said.
He added, “I’m always for holding police to higher standards, but I do believe our officers do a great job overwhelmingly in our country.”
