âAn adult male patient was deceased prior to first response arrival. The patient was found by a bystander who had repositioned the victim where the head was out of waterâ while in the freestanding jacuzzi,â an LAFD spokesperson revealed to the outlet.
The spokesperson also shared, âFirefighters pulled the victim out of the jacuzzi and did a quick medical assessment to find he was deceased.â
Following the news of his passing, Perryâs family issued a statement.
âWe are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love,â they said, per People.
In October 2022, Perry spoke to People about his memoir, âFriends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thingâ where he openly talked about his battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Perryâs addiction involved taking 55 Vicodin a day at one point.
In the interview, Perry recalled an experience he had with God after he quit drinking alcohol.
âIt was this bright yellow object that became all-encompassing. I couldnât see the kitchen anymore. It was just this light, and I felt loved and understood, and in the company of God or whatever,â he recalled.
He continued, âMy dad was right next to me, and we were holding hands and I was praying when it started, which is something I rarely did. It was like God showed me whatâs possible.â
âAnd then said, âOkay. Now you go learn this,'â Perry added.
