National Guard troops are making their way to Portland, Oregon, to protect immigration facilities from leftist rioters besieging the city in recent months.

The troops began reporting for duty in Portland on Wednesday, a Department of War (DOW) official told the Daily Caller News Foundation, shortly after President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that the National Guard is “now in place” in Oregon to counteract “lawless mayhem.” Authorities have arrested and charged dozens of people in relation to protests or attacks against immigration officials in Portland since Trump took office.

“Members of the Oregon National Guard are reporting for duty, conducting training, and preparing to support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] and other U.S. Government personnel who are performing federal functions, including the enforcement of federal law, and to protect federal property in Oregon,” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell told the DCNF.

“We will never allow MOBS to take over our streets, burn our Cities, or destroy America … We are a Nation of LAW, and we will PREVAIL. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump said on Wednesday.

The Oregon Military Department, which houses the state’s National Guard, did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment. The White House declined to comment.

Oregon Democratic Attorney General Dan Rayfield and the city of Portland sued Trump on Sunday over a DOW memo that day formalizing Trump’s plans to send the troops. The move “threatens the economic well-being of the people of Oregon,” their lawsuit argued.
