Biden’s Approval Down to 38 Percent, Harris’ Also Sinks: Poll

Just over a year after voters elected President Joe Biden, nearly half of Americans say he has “done a worse job” than they expected.

According to a USA Today/Suffolk poll released on Sunday, roughly just 38% of Americans say they approve of Biden’s job performance while 59% disapprove.

Additionally, the poll found, “Nearly half of those surveyed, 46%, say Biden has done a worse job as president than they expected, including 16% of those who voted for him. Independents, by 7-1 (44%-6%), say he’s done worse, not better, than they expected.”

When it comes to 2024, 64% of respondents said they do not want Biden to run again, including 28% of Democrats.

“Opposition to Trump running for another term in 2024 stands at 58%, including 24% of Republicans,” the poll added.

Meanwhile, just 27.8% of respondents said they approve of Vice President Kamala Harris’ job performance while 51% disapprove and 21% are undecided.

Roughly two-thirds of Americans, 66%, say the country is on the wrong track, while 20% say it is on the right track.

USA Today noted that allies of Biden believe his poll numbers will “rebound” after the House passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill and in the wake of a better than expected jobs report for October.

Still, it added, “The survey illuminates the size of the hole Democrats need to dig out of as they look toward the elections in one year – on Nov. 8, 2022 – that will determine control of Congress and shape the second two years of Biden’s term.”

Finally, the survey found that respondents said if the midterm elections were held today, they would “vote for their Republican congressional candidate over the Democratic one by 46%-38%.”

That could signal bad news for Democrats’ hopes of keeping control of the House where Republicans need to pick up five seats to regain control of the chamber. Additionally, in the Senate, Republicans need to flip one seat to win control of that chamber.

The poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters and was conducted Nov. 3-5.
