Naturally conceived identical triplets — Claire Elizabeth, Ella Katherine and Lily Caroline Cordaro — were born in Louisiana in August.

According to the hospital statement, natural triplets, or “spontaneous triplets,” are between a one in a million to a one in 200 million occurrence. The trio came into the world on Aug. 28.

The parents, Haley and Matthew Cordaro, discovered that they were having triplets at Haley’s seven-week ultrasound. They were surprised at the news, being there is no history of multiples on either side of the family, People Magazine reported.

Haley Cordaro went into labor during her 31st week of pregnancy, but the babies were safely delivered and sent to the Willis-Knighton South’s NICU.

Dr. Gerald Brent Whitton has overseen the triplets’ care and was reported in People as stating, “They have done very well. It has been a straightforward and uncomplicated stay.”

“As we get closer to the babies’ release, we will get the parents up here and get them used to taking care of all three at the same time,” he added.

People Magazine reported that the babies each weighed around 3 pounds or less when they were born.

The couple stated, “We were so fortunate and blessed to have made it 32 weeks and to have delivered three healthy babies considering all the potential risks when pregnant with multiples.”

“We know we will have some challenges ahead but are ecstatic for our new life with the girls.”

The Cordaros already have a 3-year-old daughter and Matthew Cordaro explained they “were in absolute disbelief” at first.

He noted concerns during the pregnancy and stated, “Our feelings then shifted towards worry due to the pregnancy being very high risk in nature.”

“Once we got to the second trimester and on, our doctor visits continually brought great news,” he said.

The family is preparing to welcome their trio home next week and has been celebrating special milestones.

Haley Cordaro posted a picture of the little girls on Facebook to commemorate their one-month birthday in September.

She noted, “They have been working on bottle feeds & gaining weight and should be able to come home in a few short weeks!”
