MSNBC’s Joy Reid is sharing she did not go out on the Fourth of July due to concerns about guns.

During a segment on Wednesday, Reid focused on gun violence that occurred on the Fourth of July.

“I have to say, I did not go out on July 4 and would not,” she stated.

The host explained:

“The idea of going to a mass gathering, a parade, or a big fireworks thing outside seems insane to me, to be blunt, in America, because America is awash with guns, and now people don’t just have them, they seem to want to shoot people with them and use them for whatever, you know?”

Reid’s comments come as ABC News reports there were 22 mass shootings over the holiday weekend.

The violence left 20 people dead and 126 injured.

One of the deadliest shootings occurred in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where five people were killed.

ABC News reports the suspect used an AR-15 style rifle, had a pistol, a ski mask, extra magazines, and a bulletproof vest.

According to law enforcement, the suspect randomly fired at least 50 shots at the victims.

Still, Forbes reported that the day of July 4 saw the lowest number of mass shootings this year — with six reported — since 2019 when there were four mass shootings reported.

In 2022, there were 10 mass shootings reported on the Fourth of July.

The outlet suggested the fact the holiday was on a weekday and not on the weekend might have factored into the lower number of shootings on the day.
