More than 1,800 people have been detained after protesting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as of Friday, according to a report.

OVD-Info protest monitor reported that the protesters had been detained in 61 cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The Los Angeles Times reported Russians were signing open letters and online petitions demanding the Kremlin stop the attack.

According to the Ukrainian health minister, the attacks killed at least 57 Ukrainians and wounded dozens more.

President Joe Biden announced additional economic sanctions that will be imposed on Russia in response to the invasion.

“Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war. And now he and his country will bear the consequences,” Biden said while delivering remarks from the White House.

Biden explained, “We will limit Russia’s ability to do business in dollars, euros, pounds and yen to be part of the global economy, we’re going to limit their ability to do that.”

He continued, “We’re going to stunt the ability to finance and grow the Russian military, and we’re going to impair their ability to compete in the high-tech 21st century economy.”

The president made it clear U.S. forces “are not going to Europe to fight in Ukraine,” but will assist NATO allies.

Biden said he has “no plans” to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy seemingly took a swipe at Biden on Thursday, as IJR reported.

“This morning we are defending our state alone. Like yesterday, the world’s most powerful forces are watching from afar,” Zelenskyy said.

He added, “Did yesterday’s sanctions convince Russia? We hear in our sky and see on our earth that this was not enough.”

Zelenskyy offered his support for Russians who are protesting.

“Fight for us, fight against war,” he said.
