President Donald Trump is confident Americans will see a quick economic rebound as the United States begins to reopen following the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump is adamant the United States cannot stay closed for much longer or the economy will continue to suffer. He is optimistic when the nation does reopen, Americans will see rapid economic growth.
“You wouldn’t have a country. Your country would break and we’re going to have a fantastic next year. We will have a record or almost record next year,” Trump said.

Trump’s comments come as governors continue to grapple with guidelines to slowly reopen their economies.
He believes some state officials are taking too long.
“Some of these people are being unrealistic. They’re being ridiculous,” Trump said. “I’ve looked at a couple of states that are being absolutely ridiculous but ultimately the people are forcing it.”
Trump acknowledged the risks of reopening the nation but also believes health officials have learned enough about the coronavirus to mitigate the effects of it.
“We’ve learned things in the last two months. We’ve learned a lot about it,” Trump said.
He continued, “We may have fires and we’re going to put the fires out. We may have I say ’embers’ but we also may have some fires and some reasonably big ones but we’ll put them out.”
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said in the past he believes an economic rebound will only take months rather than years, as IJR previously reported,
He also predicted the economy will come “roaring back” after the pandemic subsides.
On Friday, Director of the White House’s National Economic Council Larry Kudlow was asked how confident he is of a rebound, to which he said, “I don’t want to give anybody a false sense of anything. I say with great humility and deference. These are heartbreaking numbers. Nor do I want to suggest we have accurate forecasting models,” according to a White House pool report.
“I don’t want to give false hope. I just think reasonably good economic analysis suggests that a reopening of the economy, a safe reopening of the economy, will provide much better numbers. And, again, you have to go to the health care experts… but those numbers are flattening out nicely. … So to me the rescue plan, now we’re in the reopening phase… and that will lead to good growth rebound in the third quarter.”
According to Dr. Deborah Birx, health officials from the White House Coronavirus Task Force and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are working together to revise guidelines to assist states in reopening, as IJR reported.
