President Donald Trump encouraged Canadians who to vote for as the head to the polls Monday to elect a new prime minister — Donald Trump.
Trump addressed the “great people of Canada” who are voting in a snap election after Justin Trudeau stepped down as prime minister, per Mediaite.
The president has been an antagonist to Canada as of late with high tariffs and a trade war.
“Good luck to the Great people of Canada,” Trump posted on social media.
He continued: “Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power, for free, to the highest level in the World, have your Car, Steel, Aluminum, Lumber, Energy, and all other businesses, QUADRUPLE in size, WITH ZERO TARIFFS OR TAXES, if Canada becomes the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America. No more artificially drawn line from many years ago. Look how beautiful this land mass would be. Free access with NO BORDER. ALL POSITIVES WITH NO NEGATIVES. IT WAS MEANT TO BE!”
“America can no longer subsidize Canada with the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year that we have been spending in the past. It make. no sense unless Canada is a State!” he added.
Trump has taken the position Canada should become the 51st state, mostly as a way of deflecting from negative news, it appears.
It seems not many are ready to hang “The Stars and Stripes” north of the border, according to X:
Mark Carney, head of a Liberal party and current prime minister, is up against Pierre Poilievre, leader of Conservatives, per CNN.
