Police located in the Ukrainian region of Chernihiv also said in a Facebook post, “Today, the occupiers once again carried out a heavy artillery attack on unarmed civilian residents of the city. There are dead and wounded people. Among the dead – US citizens.”

The post continued, “Police officers are helping to evacuate affected citizens to medical facilities.”

According to the head of the Chernihiv region, Chernihiv city is “suffering great losses,” as CNN reported.

Vyacheslav Chaus wrote on Telegram, “The enemy continues systematic artillery and air strikes of our regional center, destroying civilian infrastructure,” adding, “Just yesterday [Wednesday], 53 bodies of our dead citizens, killed by the Russian aggressor, were brought to the city morgue.”

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced the U.S. would be sending $800 million in additional military assistance to Ukraine. Last week, the U.S. announced $200 million in security aid for Ukraine.

“This new package on its own is going to provide unprecedented assistance to Ukraine,” Biden said.

He added, “The American people are answering President Zelenskyy’s call for more help, more weapons for Ukraine.”

During his address to Congress on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invoked 9/11 and Pearl Harbor in his plea for more help, as IJR reported.

“Our country is experiencing the same every day, right now, at this moment. Every night for three weeks now … Russia has turned the Ukrainian sky into a source of death for thousands of people,” Zelenskyy said.

He expressed his wish for Biden to be “the leader of the world,” adding, “Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.”
