The suspect in the Washington, D.C., pipe bomb investigation believes the 2020 election was stolen from President Donald Trump.
That’s what Brian Cole, 30, of Virginia told FBI agents after his arrest Thursday, per CNN.
Investigators believe this may be the motive for the bombs placed near the Democratic National Committer and Republican National Committer headquarters on Jan. 5, 2021.
The next day, protestors stormed the Capitol to dispute the election.
The FBI interviewed Cole for hours when he made many statements, sources said.
The FBI and the Justice Department declined to comment.
The FBI speculated Cole assembled bomb-making supplies for months before leaving the pipe bombs.
FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi have slamed the Justice Department and FBI under former President Joe Biden. They claim officials sat on the case for years, Mediaite reported.
“The prior administration sat on the evidence for four years,” Patel told Fox News on Thursday. “There wasn’t any production of new evidence from five years ago.”
“This case languished, it sat there for years collecting dust,” Bondi added. “No one did anything to solve this.”
Cole is charged with transporting an explosive device in interstate commerce and attempted malicious destruction by means of fire and explosive materials, per CNN.
Cole, who has not entered a plea, is expected to appear in court Friday afternoon.
