Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is picking up the endorsement of Cindy McCain, the wife of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)
âMaybe I shouldnât say it, but Iâm about to go on one of these Zooms with John McCainâs wife,â Biden said during a virtual fundraiser on Tuesday.Â
He added that she decided to endorse Biden because âof what talks about with my son and Johnâs who are heroes, who served their country, you know he said theyâre losers, theyâre suckers.â
That quote stems from a story in The Atlantic that said President Donald Trump called American soldiers who died in war âsuckersâ and âlosers.â
The report was based on several anonymous sources, and Trump forcefully denied it, âI would be willing to swear on anything that I never said that about our fallen heroes. There is nobody that respects them more.â
âSo, I just think itâs a horrible, horrible thing⌠no animal, nobody, what animal would say such a thing,â he added.
Cindy McCain narrated a video for the Democratic National Convention in August that focused on her husbandâs friendship with Biden. However, she did not offer an endorsement at the time.
Cindy McCain and her daughter, Meghan McCain, have been publicly critical of Trump.
Trump repeatedly lashed out at John McCain, especially after he sunk a 2017 effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA.)
And in 2015, Trump took a shot at McCainâs war service and claimed he was not a war hero because he was a prisoner of war and âI like people who werenât captured.â
