A House Democrat is raising the possibility classified documents in President Joe Biden’s possession could have been planted.

Speaking to a reporter on Thursday, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) said, “My response to it all is that alleged classified documents showing up allegedly in the possession of Joseph Biden, you know, I mean, there’s so much that needs to be investigated.”

“And that’s what I’ve called for is for everything to be investigated. But I’m suspicious of the timing of it. I’m also aware of the fact that things can be planted on people… things can be planted in places and then discovered conveniently,” he continued.

Finally, Johnson said, “That may be what has occurred here. I’m not ruling that out.”

“But I’m open in terms of the investigation — it needs to be investigated,” he added.

Biden is facing a special counsel investigation after documents with classification markings were discovered in an office at the Penn Biden Center and his Wilmington, Delaware, residence, as IJR reported.

The president told reporters on Tuesday he was “surprised” to hear classified material was found at the Penn Biden Center.

“They did what they should have done. They immediately called the … turned them over to the Archives,” Biden said of his lawyers’ actions when the documents were discovered.

However, he explained he does not know what the documents are because, “My lawyers have not suggested I ask what documents they were.”

Some commentators have also questioned the timing of the revelation as it comes as former President Donald Trump is also facing an investigation for his handling of classified documents.

On Thursday, Joy Behar, a co-host of ABC’s “The View,” said, “I’ve never seen a luckier person than Donald Trump.”

“Just as we’re this close to getting him, somehow, these documents appear!” she added.

In case you missed it:

In a statement on Thursday, Special Counsel to the President Richard Sauber said, “We are confident that a thorough review will show that these documents were inadvertently misplaced, and the President and his lawyers acted promptly upon discovery of this mistake.”
