A Marshall Islands-flagged oil Tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was seized by Iranian forces on Friday, marking the first such interdiction in months in one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.
According to The Associated Press, a U.S. defense official said the Tanker, named the Talara, was traveling from Ajman in the United Arab Emirates toward Singapore when it was intercepted and forced into Iranian territorial waters.
Iran has not publicly acknowledged the operation, but the seizure comes as Tehran has issued increasingly sharp warnings following its 12-day war with Israel in June — a conflict that prompted U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
