White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was left defending her faith as a Christian after she was accused of being a “fake Christian” by a Democrat lawmaker.

According to the New York Post, Leavitt fired back at Rep. Dave Min (D-Calif.) after he reposted Leavitt on X, attacking her faith and calling the Trump administration the “Golden Calf administration.”

“‘Thou shalt not bear false witness…’ @PressSec. Karoline Leavitt is a Fake Christian, like so many in this Golden Calf administration,” he wrote.

In response, Leavitt told the Post that Min’s comments were “pitiful.”

“I think it’s pitiful for an elected member of Congress to say that about a woman who he’s never even met,” Leavitt said. “My Christian faith is a huge part of my life. My faith, my marriage, my family life — it’s everything to me.”

The remarks came after the White House had rescinded an Office of Management and Budget memo ordering a freeze of all federal grants and loans. The guidance was blocked by a federal judge on January 28. Leavitt clarified the memo had been revoked.

“This is NOT a rescission of the federal funding freeze. It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo. Why? To end any confusion created by the court’s injunction. The President’s EO’s on federal funding remain in full force and effect and will be rigorously implemented,” Leavitt wrote on X.

In response to Min’s reposting and mocking of Leavitt’s faith, other social media users came to her defense.

“What a petty little man you must be,” one user wrote.

Others pointed out Min’s recent brush with the law in 2023, when he had been caught on suspicion of driving drunk.

Another X user noted Min’s support of abortion and transgenderism: “A drunk driving supporter of mass murder of babies in the womb and men pretending to be women. You clearly have no idea what it means to be a Christian. Do yourself and your family a favor and actually study God’s Word. If you can’t frame an argument, just sit down and be quiet.”
