Christina Applegate says daily life has narrowed to a painful routine as she continues her fight with multiple sclerosis.
According to Page Six, the actress shared that she is largely confined to her bed, pushing herself to get up mainly for one reason â taking her teenage daughter to school and activities.
âI want to take her; itâs my favorite thing to do. Itâs the only time we have together by ourselves,â she said. âI tell myself, âJust get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.â And thatâs what I do.â
The 54-year-old explained that the reality of her illness has stripped away any pretense.
âMy life isnât wrapped up with a bow,â she said. âPeopleâs lives, sorry for lack of a better term, fâking suck sometimes. So Iâm being as honest and raw as I possibly can.â
Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in August 2021. The condition can cause weakness, numbness, difficulty walking, and vision problems, symptoms she has spoken about publicly in recent years.
âItâs been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some aâhole blocks it,â she wrote on X.
She has continued to update fans on her health, including a hospitalization last summer when she said she was âscreamingâ in pain and later learned she had a kidney infection.
The disease has also changed her relationship with her daughter, Sadie, whom she shares with husband Martyn LeNoble.
âI see her look at me when Iâm in bed and canât quite move, or I wanna go say goodnight to her in her room, but I canât quite get down the hallway for whatever reason that my legs arenât working that day,â she said on her podcast.
Applegate described the experience as her daughter âlosing the mom she had,â recalling a time when she was âhealthy, and a runner, and a Pelotoner and a dancer.â
Despite the challenges, she said Sadie has stepped in to help her navigate public outings and manage her cane.
âRight now I can barely get to bathroom, itâs the worst, but thatâs neither here nor there,â Applegate added.
For now, she said, those brief car rides together remain the highlight of her day â even if they end with a return to bed.
